I am a Graduate Teaching Assistant and PhD student at the University of Minnesota. In the classroom, I teach first-year composition with a focus on rhetorical analysis, argumentation, and writing as civic engagement. This role has strengthened my skills in communication, mentorship, inclusive pedagogy, and project management.
After completing my M.A. in Rhetoric and Writing Studies at the University of Oklahoma, I decided to pursue a PhD in Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication at the University of Minnesota. My research interests include medical rhetoric, rhetoric of the body, and embodied methodologies. I have presented my work at many regional conferences and am committed to scholarship that connects lived experience with broader cultural conversations.
Before graduate school, I graduated summa cum laude from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA, with bachelor’s degrees in both history and writing. During and after my undergraduate studies, I worked in the service industry, which honed my ability to adapt quickly, communicate clearly, and collaborate in high-pressure environments.
I bring broad professional experience to my academic work. I have worked in publishing as an editorial intern at Dzanc Books and am gaining further experience in acquisitions and editorial work at Tendon and Mud Season Review literary magazines. I also have a background in content writing, producing research-driven SEO articles for a variety of clients, largely in legal and medical fields.
I am also a Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net-nominated creative writer, and have been published in, among others, Gordon Square Review, Journal of Narrative Medicine, Narratively, The Blood Project, Elephants and Tea, The Audacity, and Final Gravity.
Outside of my professional and academic work, I enjoy long-distance hiking, spending time with my partner and our corgi, running, and traveling.
