Maggie Hart is a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Writing Consultant at the University of Oklahoma, where she helps writers build confidence, clarity, and adaptability in their work. In the writing center, she supports students from across disciplines at every stage of the writing process, from brainstorming ideas to revising for organization and style. In the classroom, she teaches first-year composition with a focus on rhetorical analysis, argumentation, and writing as civic engagement. These roles have strengthened her skills in communication, mentorship, inclusive pedagogy, and project management.
Currently completing her M.A. in Rhetoric and Writing Studies, Maggie’s research interests include medical rhetoric, rhetoric of the body, and embodied methodologies. She has presented her work at regional conferences and is committed to scholarship that connects lived experience with broader cultural conversations.
Before graduate school, Maggie graduated summa cum laude from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA, with bachelor’s degrees in both history and writing. During and after her undergraduate studies, Maggie worked for many years in the service industry, which honed her ability to adapt quickly, communicate clearly, and collaborate in high-pressure environments.
Maggie brings broad professional experience to her academic work. She has worked in publishing as an editorial intern at Dzanc Books and is gaining further experience in acquisitions and editorial work at literary magazines. She also has a background in content writing, producing research-driven SEO articles for a variety of clients, largely in legal and medical fields.
Maggie is also a Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net-nominated creative writer, and has been published in, among others, Narratively, The Blood Project, Elephants and Tea, The Audacity, and Final Gravity. Her writing often involves themes of illness and healing, reflecting her perspective as a leukemia survivor. This creative work informs her teaching and scholarship, allowing her to mentor writers not only in technical skill but also in finding voice and confidence.
Outside of her professional and academic work, Maggie enjoys long-distance hiking, spending time with her partner and their corgi, running, and traveling.
